YUL......

I finally finished reading "Yul: The man who would be KING". Its a biography about Yul Brynner written by his son, Rock Brynner. I feel sorry for the actor only because my mood is tuning to the music of piano that I have playing right now.

Otherwise, yuck! How can anyone ever live a life like that! His life is so full of so-called-power, a power which he exploits to the maximum and gets paid for it in the end....Its actually surprising, the book started with the author writing in the likes of "MY DADDY STRONGEST!". This goes on when the author talks about the actor's life at its peak stage of fame...Yul is still arrogant, and an egotist and a womaniser at his best. Then somehow the magic fades away, as he grows older, but Yul doesn't come to terms with it. Maybe that explains why he marries(!) women younger than his son. He struggles a lot to support his family and his extensive wardrobe and silly hobbies. All that is because he isn't able to accept he has lost the race. I mean, with actors, life is always wishy-washy. You are a hero one day, you are a villan the next, you are nothing soon after that. The author has written almost everything he knew about Yul Brynner as a father, as an actor, as an egotist, as a womaniser, as a myth, as reality. I loved watching Yul Brynner act in Anastasia, The King and I, and Ten Commandments. The movies I saw of him portrayed him as an arrogant, cruel, ruthless devil of a guy, and I was surprised to read he, in real life, was one.

I found out one thing though. The lives of film stars suck! No offence meant....just that too much fame and too much money and too much power can make you go more than just crazy. He was great as an actor, he was less than human as a person...and frankly, I can't imagine respecting someone like that, even if he is long dead. I respect him for all the roles he played...Nobody can beat him on that one. No one, ever.
