Terry Pratchett

I have so far read two of Terry Pratchett books. The first one I read was called "Small Gods", the first book which took me into his "Discworld".

"Small Gods" is interesting reading; it is about a a person who can hear the voice of a small god. The god is trying to grow strong for which he needs a lot of people to believe in him. As this person is the only one who hears him, he tries to make a prophet out of him so that people will listen to the Prophet and ultimately make him a powerful God. But, this is no easy task and the book goes on about how that is accomplished and what happens inbetween. There are certain sections which make no sense when you first read them through but at the end of the story, it all fits in like a puzzle. The style of writing is so different from all the books I have read so far.

"Going Postal" is also equally interesting. It is about a crook who is given a choice in life, the choice being a government job as postmaster of a rotting post office. It was as abstract as the other one I read but all of it made sense in the end anyway. These books are the kind of books that you have to read through each word - it was good enough to read each word so it was ok. Only then it made sense. I like Terry Pratchett already.

P. S. Discworld - is a fictional world of the author in which he considers the world as a flat disc (not a round sphere) on the back of a huge turtle, which is balanced on four corners by four elephants, floating in space. This world is a jumble of human people, werewolves, dwarfs, wizards, trolls, golums and so on, all knowing the existence of each other and living together. Oh, and there are lots and lots of Gods.
